Why I chose crowdlending and why real estate financing needs to be democratized

Welcome to my first blog post as CEO of Crowdster. I would like to begin by sharing a bit about who I am, why we started Crowdster, and, not least, what personally drives me in my work to connect real estate developers and investors.

Who am I?

On a personal level, I am Swedish married, and the father of two wonderful boys aged ten and five. Family means everything to me, and it has played a significant role in my decision to take a new step in my career and help build something that feels meaningful to me, both socially and on a human level.

Professionally, I have worked in the banking sector since 1990. Over the years, I have had the pleasure of being part of several of the largest Nordic banks and have held a wide range of roles. What they all had in common was a strong focus on analysis, credit assessment, customer relationships, private banking, corporate finance, real estate financing, strategy, and leadership.

This experience has given me a solid foundation and a deep understanding of how financing works—and unfortunately also where it often does not work optimally.

Why the shift from banking to crowdlending?

After morethan three decades in the traditional banking sector, one thing became increasingly clear to me:
There are many highly skilled real estate developers with strong projects, deep expertise, and valuable local insight who never the less find it difficult to access traditional financing.

Regulation, standardization, and rigid risk models mean that banks today often say no to projects that are sound, but do not fit into a predefined template. As a result, talent, innovation, and value-creating real estate projects risk never being realized.

At the sametime, I have seen a growing group of private investors and companies seeking attractive returns on their capital, but who lack transparent, understandable, and accessible investment opportunities with genuine societal value.

This is where crowdlending made complete sense to me.

A more democratic approach to real estate financing

Crowdlending makes it possible to democratize real estate financing.

It is about creating a platform where:

  • Skilled, but smaller real estate developers gain easy access to financing on fair and transparent and terms.
  • Private investors and companies can invest directly in real estate projects
  • Transparency, accessibility, and thorough credit assessment are at the core

By combining my many years of experience from the banking world with modern technology and a more open approach to capital intermediation, our ambition at Crowdster is to build a bridge between those who need financing and those who seek returns from real estate investments.

Our ambition

Our ambition is not to replace banks, but to complement them. We aim to be an alternative, a place where quality, diligence, and responsibility go hand in hand with innovation and new opportunities.

For me personally, this transition is not a break with the banking world, but a natural evolution. I believe that the future of real estate financing will be more open, more digital, and more inclusive, and I am proud to be part of that development.

Thank you for reading. This is only the beginning.

Welcome to the Crowdster family.
